The LNER O1 is a class of steam locomotive that was designed by Edward Thompson and was in operation from 1944 to 1962. They were primarily used for freight hauling on the East Coast Main Line in the UK and were known for their power and reliability. The O1 class locomotives were capable of reaching speeds of up to 75mph and had a tractive effort of 32,080 lbs. In total, 90 O1 locomotives were built between 1944 and 1949, and they were eventually replaced by diesel and electric locomotives in the 1960s. Today, one example of the O1 class, No. 63456, is preserved at the National Railway Museum in York, England.
